When Yuvraj’s record was not broken by Abhishek Sharma, ‘Guruji’ himself enjoyed it, know what he said

Team India’s young opener Abhishek Sharma is currently the biggest headache for the opposition bowlers in T20 cricket. The manner in which his bat has been on fire for the last one and a half years has made him one of India’s biggest hopes for the T20 World Cup 2026. In the third T20 match against New Zealand, Abhishek once again created such a storm that the match went to India in the blink of an eye.

In this match played in Guwahati on 25 January, Abhishek Sharma scored a half-century in just 14 balls. This was the second fastest half-century from India in T20 International. Thanks to his explosive innings, Team India won the match in just 60 balls.

Yuvraj had fun on social media

Thanks to his 14-ball half-century, Abhishek became the second fastest batsman to score a half-century for India. However, he missed breaking the record of his mentor Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj scored a half-century in just 12 balls against England in 2007, which is still an Indian record.

As soon as the record was saved, Yuvraj Singh took a humorous dig at his ‘disciple’ on social media. Tagging Abhishek on ‘X’, he wrote, “Still not able to make 50 in 12 balls?” However, after this Yuvraj also praised Abhishek and wished him for a bright future.

Attack on every ball, fours and sixes everywhere

When Abhishek Sharma came to the crease, his intentions were clearly visible. He did not spare any New Zealand bowler. During the powerplay, he continuously hit big shots and ruined all the fielding plans. He completed 50 runs by hitting a six on the last ball of the innings and forced the spectators present in the stadium to dance.

Hard work of bowlers and storm of batsmen

Talking about the match, New Zealand, batting first, had put 153 runs on the board. Glenn Phillips made the most important contribution of 48 runs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah bowled brilliantly and took 3 wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi, who returned after a long time, also got 2 wickets.

While chasing the target, India got a shock in the form of Sanju Samson on the very first ball, but after this Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and captain Suryakumar Yadav together made the match one-sided. India has further strengthened its hold in the series by winning by 8 wickets.
