Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir is in constant discussion on social media these days. After his reaction to a tweet by Shashi Tharoor, the debate intensified as to whether Gambhir, as a coach, is expressing his views too openly. Now senior Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane has given important advice to Gambhir on this issue. Rahane clearly says that Gambhir should stay away from social media and focus only on Team India and the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Controversy started with Shashi Tharoor’s tweet
This whole issue started when Congress MP Shashi Tharoor made a tweet after meeting Gautam Gambhir before the India-New Zealand first T20 match in Nagpur. Tharoor wrote that being the head coach of Team India is the second most difficult job in the country after the Prime Minister. Responding to this tweet, Gambhir said that with time people will understand that there is no such thing as “unlimited authority” for a coach. He also said that he laughs after reading the news of differences with some players of the team.
Ajinkya Rahane gave blunt advice
After this statement of Gambhir, there was a flood of reactions on social media. Giving his opinion on this, Ajinkya Rahane said that Gambhir should stay away from all these things. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Rahane said, “My personal opinion is that Gautam Gambhir should stay away from social media. There is no need to pay much attention to what people are saying about him.”
Rahane further said that Gambhir has made a brilliant career as a player and is now the coach of Team India, which is a huge responsibility in itself. In such a situation, their entire focus should be on the preparation and performance of the team and not on online discussions.
Criticism increased during Gambhir’s tenure
After Gautam Gambhir became the coach, Team India has also had to face some disappointing results. The clean sweep in the home Test series against New Zealand and the Test series defeat against South Africa raised questions. Apart from this, even after the defeat in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, fingers were raised on Gambhir’s strategies.
Amidst these results, there was a strong discussion on social media that Gambhir’s coordination is not good with senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Although Virat and Rohit answered the critics by scoring runs on the field, despite this the trolling did not reduce.
