Even if you sleep for more than 8 hours, you get headache as soon as you wake up in the morning, know what is the problem?

Morning time is considered the best start of the day. One should feel refreshed after a good sleep, but many people’s morning starts with a headache. The surprising thing is that despite getting full 8-9 hours of sleep, some people start feeling heavy or have severe pain as soon as they get up from bed.

Often people ignore it by saying that it is tiredness, weather or something is not right today. But if this problem is happening again and again, it could be a signal from your body. Headache in the morning is not a small matter, it can be due to sleeping habits, lack of water, stress, or sometimes even serious health reasons. The good thing is that in most of the cases the causes can be identified and by taking the right steps this problem can be relieved.

Why do you have a headache when you wake up in the morning even if you sleep for more than 8 hours?

1. Sleeping more than necessary – Many people think that the more they sleep, the better they will be. But the truth is that excessive sleep can also cause headaches. By sleeping for too long, the chemicals (neurotransmitters) of the brain become unbalanced. Sleeping late especially on weekends can cause weekend headache. Due to this, problems like feeling heavy on waking up, lethargy and irritability may occur.

2. Lack of water in the body – We do not drink water while sleeping at night. If we do not drink enough water even during the day, then in the morning there is a deficiency of water in both body and mind. When the body becomes dehydrated, the brain shrinks slightly, which puts pressure on the nerves and causes headaches. There is greater risk when alcohol is consumed at night, the room is very hot, or less water is consumed throughout the day.

3. Sleep Apnea – Sleep apnea is a problem in which breathing stops repeatedly during sleep. Due to this the brain does not get enough oxygen. Such people often snore loudly, have headaches as soon as they wake up in the morning, and feel very sleepy during the day. This can be a serious condition, which should not be ignored.

4. Grinding teeth at night (Bruxism) – Many people unconsciously grind their teeth or tighten their jaw while sleeping. This causes tension in the muscles of the jaw and temples, which causes headaches in the morning. Its symptoms are pain in the jaw in the morning, mild or moderate pain in the temples and wear and tear of teeth.

5. Wrong pillow or wrong sleeping position – If your pillow is too high, too hard or too soft, your neck goes into the wrong position. This puts pressure on the muscles of the neck and head. Sleeping in the wrong position can also cause headaches and stiff neck in the morning.

6. Stress, anxiety and depression – Mental health has a direct impact on sleep and headaches. People who suffer from anxiety or depression are more likely to complain of headache in the morning. Due to stress, sleep is not deep, due to which the body is not able to rest completely.

Easy ways to avoid morning headache

1. Keep regular sleep time – Sleep and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends.

2. Drink enough water – Keep drinking water throughout the day, drink a glass of water before sleeping, drink water as soon as you wake up in the morning.

3. Choose the right pillow – Choose a pillow that keeps your neck in a straight position, neither too hard, nor too soft.

4. Avoid alcohol and screens late at night – Mobile, laptop and TV activate the brain before sleeping.

5. Do light exercise – Regular exercise reduces both migraine and stress.
