Big changes may soon be seen in the JEE Advanced exam, which decides the path to admission in IITs. This examination is counted among the toughest examinations in the country and every year lakhs of students prepare for it. Now the Central Government and IIT administration are working together to further improve the pattern of this examination. The purpose of the proposed changes is that the examination should not only test the power of memorization, but also test the thinking, understanding and problem-solving ability of the students.
Till now, JEE Advanced exam was completely based on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics i.e. PCM. But under the new proposal, questions related to logical ability and aptitude can also be added to it. This means that in the coming time, students will be asked such questions in which they will have to think and find solutions. With this, it can be seen how the student understands a problem and how he solves it.
Emphasis on understanding rather than rote learning
Education experts believe that at present many students try to pass the examination only by memorizing the pattern of questions. This method will not work due to the new changes. With the introduction of logical and aptitude questions, students will have to develop a deeper understanding of the subject. With this, the level of examination will be more practical and truly deserving students can be selected.
Joint Admission Board got the responsibility
The entire responsibility of improving JEE Advanced has been handed over to the Joint Admission Board. For this, a special committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Professor Manindra Aggarwal, Director of IIT Kanpur. This committee includes many senior teachers and education experts of IIT. The committee will prepare a complete blueprint for examination reform in the next six months.
First pilot, then new pattern will be implemented
The new pattern will not be implemented directly after the committee’s report comes. First a pilot test will be conducted. Its results will be studied in depth and it will be seen what effect it has on the students. After this, new changes will be implemented in a phased manner, so that students do not have to face any sudden problems.
Examination may be conducted more than once in a year
At present JEE Advanced is conducted only once a year. But under the new proposal it is also being considered to conduct it two to four times a year. This arrangement can be like JEE Main, where the exam is held on different dates and slots. This will give students a chance to take the exam as per their convenience and the pressure of a single day will be reduced.
Mental pressure will reduce on students
Having exams more than once can also reduce the mental pressure on students. If for some reason the exam does not go well once, the student will get another chance. Experts say that this will increase the confidence of the students and they will be able to take the exam with better preparation.
Number of PCM questions may decrease
With the inclusion of aptitude and logical questions, the number of questions in PCM may reduce slightly. However, the importance of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will remain. New types of questions can be asked by linking these subjects with everyday problems, so that the real understanding of the students can be revealed.
