High blood pressure i.e. hypertension was earlier considered to be a disease of only the elderly or middle-aged people. People used to think that this problem occurs only after the age of 50 or 60. But in today’s time this thinking has completely changed. Today the surprising truth is that even youth aged between 20 to 30 years are falling prey to high blood pressure and the most dangerous thing is that many of them do not even know that their blood pressure has increased.
High BP is called a silent killer, because it keeps causing damage slowly inside the body without any specific symptoms. By the time its signs are clearly visible, it has already damaged the heart, kidneys, brain and eyes. In such a situation, the question arises whether having high BP at the age of 30 is normal or is it a sign of some major and serious disease.
What is high blood pressure?
When the pressure of the blood flowing in our arteries continuously remains higher than normal, it is called high blood pressure or hypertension. Blood pressure reading is in two numbers. In which the first is systolic pressure, when the heart pumps blood and the second is diastolic pressure, when the heart is at rest. If systolic BP is 140 mmHg or more, or diastolic BP is 90 mmHg or more, then it is considered high blood pressure.
Is high BP normal at the age of 30?
High BP at the age of 30 is not considered normal at all. This is a sign that your lifestyle is going in the wrong direction. Your body is facing pressure from inside. The risk of heart attack, stroke or kidney problems may increase in future. In such a situation, after 30 years, every person should get his BP checked at least 1-2 times a year. If there is a history of high BP in the family, one should be even more cautious. With timely testing, serious problems like heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, loss of eyesight, premature aging can be avoided.
Why is high BP happening at the age of 30?
Today’s modern lifestyle is the biggest reason for this. According to doctors and health experts, there are many reasons behind high BP in youth. Nowadays, youth spend hours looking at mobile phones and laptops, stay awake till late night, do not get enough sleep, do very little physical effort, all these things help in increasing blood pressure. Career pressure, job worries, financial tension and relationship complications – due to constant stress, such hormones are released in the body which increase BP.
In today’s diet, consumption of excess salt, excess oil, fast food, packaged snacks, sweet drinks, all these gradually increases the blood pressure. Due to weight gain, the heart has to work harder, which increases BP. Belly fat is considered a major sign of high BP. Cigarettes, tobacco and excess alcohol harden the arteries, increase pressure on the heart, due to which BP starts increasing at an early age. Sleeping 4–5 hours daily has now become a common thing. Due to lack of sleep, the body is not able to repair properly and blood pressure is affected.
