ENG Vs SL: Root-Brook’s unbeaten century, England won the ODI series against Sri Lanka 2-1

England won the third ODI match played against Sri Lanka at R Premadasa Stadium by 53 runs. With this, the visiting team won the three-match series 2-1.

After winning the toss, the English team came to bat and scored 357 runs after losing 3 wickets in the stipulated overs. This team got its first blow in the form of Ben Duckett (7) on the score of 19, after which Rehan Ahmed (24) also returned to the pavilion by the score of 40.

From here, Joe Root along with Jacob Bethel got the team out of trouble by scoring 126 runs for the third wicket. Bethel returned to the pavilion after playing an innings of 65 runs in 72 balls with 8 fours.

Captain Harry Brook came out to bat at number five. He made an unbroken partnership of 191 runs in 113 balls with Root and took England to a huge score.

Root remained unbeaten on 111 runs in 108 balls with 1 six and 9 fours, while Brook scored 136 not out in 66 balls with 9 sixes and 11 fours. From the opposition camp, Dhananjay de Silva, Wanindu Hasaranga and Jeffrey Vandersay took 1 wicket each.

Chasing the huge target, the Sri Lankan team was all out for 304 runs in 46.4 overs. Opener Pathum Nissanka made a partnership of 48 runs with Kamil Misara for the first wicket. Kamil scored 22 runs, while Nissanka scored 50 runs in 25 balls with 3 sixes and 5 fours.

Apart from these, Pawan Ratnayake scored 121 runs in 115 balls with 1 six and 12 fours, but could not lead the team to victory. For England, Jamie Overton, Liam Dawson, Will Jacques and Adil Rashid took 2 wickets each. Sam Curran got 1 wicket.

Sri Lanka won the first match of the ODI series by 19 runs, after which England won the next match by 5 wickets. In such a situation, this match was decisive. Now both the countries will play three T20 matches between 30 January and 3 February.
