Uganda Will Replace Pakistan In ICC T20 World Cup 2026: The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is going to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from 7 February. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has left the decision of Pakistan’s participation in this tournament in the hands of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will now decide whether the Pakistani team will participate in the T20 World Cup or not. The final decision regarding Pakistan’s participation in this tournament may come in the next few days. Regarding this, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi told on Twitter on Monday i.e. 26th January that he met the Prime Minister. He wrote in his post, ‘Had a positive meeting with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Informed him about the ICC case and instructed that a solution would be found keeping all options open. It has been decided that the final decision will be taken on Friday or next Monday.
Will Pakistan be the second team to be eliminated from T20 World Cup?
If Pakistan withdraws from the T20 World Cup 2026, then it will become the second team to be out of the tournament. Recently, Bangladesh also withdrew from the tournament because ICC refused to shift their matches to Sri Lanka. However, the ICC rejected the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s demand after an independent security investigation.
Uganda will get a chance instead of Pakistan
If Pakistan withdraws from T20 World Cup 2026, then Uganda will get a chance in its place. This East African team was part of the 2024 T20 World Cup, but the Ugandan team could not qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup. According to ICC rules, the top-ranked team that does not qualify takes the place of the eliminated team. 14th ranked Scotland got the chance in place of Bangladesh. Uganda is the second highest ranked team that has not been able to qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Uganda is ranked 21st in the T20 International rankings and hence will replace Pakistan.
How was Uganda’s performance in T20 World Cup 2024?
Uganda participated in the T20 World Cup 2024 for the first time and was successful in registering one win in four matches. They won against PNG, while they had to face defeat against Afghanistan, West Indies and New Zealand. However, Uganda could not qualify for the T20 World Cup 2026.
