Electricity consumers are going to get a big shock in Uttar Pradesh in the month of February. According to the news, this time consumers will have to pay ten percent more bill for the electricity used in the month of January. Electricity companies will collect an additional surcharge of Rs 616.05 crore along with the bill as fuel surcharge.
It is clear from this decision of the electricity companies that this time in the month of February, electricity consumers may have to pay higher electricity bills. However, this decision of the power companies is showing displeasure from the State Electricity Consumer Council. Council Chairman Awadhesh Kumar Verma has demanded a ban on charging this surcharge.
Electricity Consumer Council protested
While talking to ABP News, Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumer Council Chairman Awadhesh Kumar Verma said that we have given a proposal in the Electricity Regulatory Commission against the 10 percent fuel surcharge that is being collected from the consumers in the month of February, because we believe that the order of the Power Corporation is unconstitutional.
Awadhesh Kumar said that the main reason for opposing this is that in November the Regulatory Commission had fixed the maximum cost of purchase of electricity in the tariff at around Rs 4.94, but now he says that in November he bought electricity at Rs 5.79 per unit, which no one can understand.
Questions raised on expensive electricity purchase
He said that it is beyond comprehension that when electricity consumption is high in the summer months of April-May, electricity was purchased at Rs 4.76 per unit, then what happened in November that such expensive electricity was purchased. The Regulatory Commission should put a stop to this and this entire process should be investigated.
Awadhesh Verma said that the Power Corporation wants to put the burden on the people of the state in an unconstitutional manner. Whereas, UP is the first state in the country where the public has a surplus of Rs 50 thousand on the electricity companies, in such a situation this should not be implemented.
UGC rules will be applicable to these institutions also! Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad’s letter created a stir, what will happen now?
