Whereas earlier people used to run towards ATM even for small needs, now many tasks are completed through digital payment. From vegetables and fruits to big shops, online payment is being accepted. Its effect is clearly visible on the habit of withdrawing money from ATM.

It is clear from this that there has been a decrease in withdrawals. On the other hand, the amount of money that can be withdrawn at one time has increased. The average amount per transaction has increased by 4.5 percent to Rs 5,835 in 2025. Whereas, in the year 2024 it was Rs 5,586.
More withdrawals in rural areas
The practice of withdrawing cash from ATMs has been seen more in small towns and rural areas. An average withdrawal of Rs 1.30 crore has been recorded per ATM every month in these areas. At the same time, this figure is less on average in metro cities.
About Rs 1.18 crore was withdrawn in Metro City. Whereas in other urban areas an average monthly withdrawal of Rs 1.11 crore was seen. This makes it clear that people in rural areas are still showing more confidence in cash transactions.
The effect of weather and festivals is also visible
Facilities like weather, festival time and movement of people also have a direct impact on the cash withdrawal from ATM every month. According to the report, after the GST reforms in the month of September, there was a change in the spending pattern of people, which has also affected the pattern of cash transactions.
