Some masked miscreants tried to kidnap Congress councilors in Chandrapur, Maharashtra. The incident took place on the evening of Thursday, January 29, when an attempt was made to kidnap councilors from a bus. In this case, a case has been registered against 6 people and one accused has also been arrested.
Police have informed that a bus was carrying newly elected councilors of Chandrapur Municipal Corporation (CMC) near Samriddhi Expressway in Wardha district adjacent to Nagpur. Some people stopped this bus and tried to kidnap the Congress members.
A senior councilor who was travelling, said that the situation could be brought under control due to the timely arrival of party supporters and the intervention of the police.
Councilor was going to register the group
According to party sources, 17 to 18 councilors, supporters of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Vijay Wadettiwar, were going to Nagpur, where they had to register their faction at the Divisional Commissioner’s office as per the rules after the municipal elections.
20 masked people in 6 vehicles, stopped the bus
Rajesh Adoor had lodged a complaint with the police in this matter. They were also traveling in this bus. Citing this complaint, the police said that the bus was near Yelkeli toll plaza around 5.45 pm. Then about 20 masked people came in 4-6 vehicles and stopped the bus. After this, an attempt was made to forcibly remove the Congress councilors from the bus.
Meanwhile, as soon as information about the incident was received, Congress workers reached the spot, following which a scuffle broke out between the two parties. As soon as the information was received, the team of Sawangi police station reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Case registered against 6 named and many unknown people
Police said that a person named Kanain Siddiqui, a resident of Nagpur, was caught by the party workers, who was later arrested by the police. Police said that a case has been registered against him and 5 other named accused and some unidentified people under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS).
