Amidst the tension with America, the whole world is now eyeing Donald Trump to see how he responds to the challenge Canada has presented him. According to the Financial Times report, US State Department officials have met three times since last April with leaders of an organization that wants Alberta to separate from Canada. The name of this organization is Alberta Prosperity Project, which is demanding a referendum for the independence of Alberta.

Why is Alberta important for Canada?
Actually, Alberta is an oil-rich province of Western Canada, which is almost as big a city as Texas of America. About 5 million people reside in this city and the province is surrounded by the Rockies mountain range and tourist destinations like Banff and Lake Louise.
At the same time, 84 percent of the oil produced in Canada is produced only in the city of Alberta. Therefore it is also called the Energy Province of Canada. Politically, it is considered a stronghold of the Conservative Party of Canada, although its downtown areas are more progressive.
Canada has been giving shelter to Khalistani separatists
Canada has been providing shelter to separatists demanding Khalistan for almost 50 years. Whenever India has asked Canada to take action on these, it has rejected it. Before PM Carney, when Trudeau was the Prime Minister of Canada, he had created an uproar over the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He had demanded an international level investigation into the murder of Nijjar, after which the dispute between the two countries increased considerably.

Let us tell you that on June 18, 2023, Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead by unknown assailants outside a Gurudwara in Surrey, British Columbia. India had declared him a terrorist, who was the chief of Khalistan Tiger Force. Canada claimed India’s involvement in this massacre. Justin Trudeau alleged in the Canadian Parliament that it was agents of the Indian government who killed Nijjar. However, India had termed Canada’s allegations as baseless. Canada has not been able to provide even a single evidence to India in this dispute till now.
