Actress Upasana Singh, famous as Pinky Bua in ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, talked about the hidden bitter truth of the entertainment industry. He told that behind the glamor the bitter truth and struggle of the industry is hidden.
In a special conversation with IANS, he told that this industry which looks glamorous from outside is full of struggle, poverty and uncertainty from inside.
Upasana Singh said, people think that everything is easy and glamorous in the film industry. Actors are living comfortably, but the reality is very different. When I became the General Secretary of Cinema and TV Artists Association, I came to know the real situation.
He told that many artists are barely able to earn Rs 1,200 a year. Some get work only for four-five days in a year. In that too, the coordinator deducts 25 percent commission from the daily wage of Rs 5,000. Payment is also received after 90 to 120 days. In an expensive city like Mumbai, it becomes very difficult for them to meet the rent, children’s school fees and household expenses.
Upasana further said, how much is left in hand after deducting TDS and paying the coordinator’s commission? Many times these artists do not even have money for medical expenses. They cannot go to the doctor. Taking care of their health also becomes a luxury for them. They just have to struggle constantly to survive in the industry.
She looked very emotional during the conversation. He said, I feel very sad. By the grace of God, I got good work, I did lead roles, played popular characters and got blessings. But, when I saw the condition of these artists, I was heartbroken. Now we are continuously trying to help them through associations.
Upasana Singh has been a part of the industry for a long time. He has worked in many hit films like ‘Judwaa’, ‘Halchal’, ‘Hungama’, ‘Golmaal Returns’ and ‘Chak De Phatte’.
