Premananda Maharaj narrated story of Laila Majnu: The story of Laila-Majni has been considered the deepest example of love for centuries. Majnu’s passion for Laila, his isolation from the world, his wandering here and there in the forests, all this was not a part of a common love story, but a feeling of dedication.

Majnu started seeing his God in Laila. This is the reason why Sufi saints have considered this story not as a symbol of worldly love but of love for God.

Saint Premanand Maharaj of Vrindavan has thrown light on this story of Laila-Majnu. Maharaj Ji always says that when a person is in true devotion, he forgets his identity, he sees only God, just like Majnu saw Laila everywhere. Premanand Maharaj considers this story not only as a story of the heart but also as an example of awakening the soul.

Premanand Maharaj narrated the love story of Laila-Majnu

Laila came to know that Majnu was roaming around hungry and thirsty. A fool, cut off from the world. Laila was a rich girl of the royal family. She immediately ordered, “Wherever in the market, in whatever shop Majnu wants to eat, I will give a full account of it.”

As soon as this announcement was made, people came to know. Lakhs of Majnu came to the market to eat Rabdi. It was now difficult to identify the real Majnu. But Laila said, “I know the real Majnu. Tell me tomorrow, I want to meet him.”

The next day thousands of Majnu gathered there. Laila was standing behind the curtain, holding a knife and a bowl in her hand. He said, “We need the blood of Majnu’s heart.”

All those Majnu in the crowd who had come only to eat Rabdi, retreated in fear. And the real Majnu, he picked up the knife with a smile. When Laila asked him to kill her, he only said, “Majnu is here.”

That Majnu who lived only for love without caring about his life, his heart, and his existence. That was the real Majnu. Everyone else was Majnu in name only. This was the truth of love: the one who leaves everything for his love is called a true lover.
