Nirmala Sitharaman was born on 18 August 1959 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. She comes from a Tamil Iyengar Brahmin family. His father Narayanan Sitharaman worked in the Indian Railways, while his mother Savitri was a housewife. Since childhood, Nirmala Sitharaman was very bright in studies and had a special love for books. His early education took place in Tamil Nadu only. Earlier she studied at Sacred Heart Convent School, Vilupuram. After this he studied at Vidyodaya School, Chennai. He completed his further schooling from St. Philomena’s School and Holy Cross School in Tiruchirappalli.
Made a strong identity in economics
Nirmala Sitharaman also did her college studies from Tamil Nadu. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Seethalakshmi Ramaswamy College, Tiruchirappalli. After this he moved to Delhi for further studies. He completed his Master’s degree in Economics and then M.Phil from Delhi’s top Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Later he also enrolled for PhD in Economics, in which his subject was trade between India and Europe. However, this study could not be completed because during this time her husband got a scholarship at the London School of Economics and the family had to move to London.
