India’s Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has presented the country’s Budget 2026-27 for the 9th consecutive time. Nirmala Sitharaman became the first foreign minister to do so. Under Neighborhood First, Rs 22118.97 crore will be allocated to the Ministry of External Affairs for Budget 2026-27 for foreign aid. There has been a slight increase in the budget of the Indian External Affairs Ministry. Last year this figure was Rs 20516.61 crore.
Compared to last year, India has made major changes in the budget for other countries this year. India has increased the budget for many countries and has also reduced financial assistance for some countries. India has shown a mirror to Bangladesh which has threatened Bangladesh over ‘chicken neck’ by halving its budget. An aid amount of Rs 60 crore has been announced for Bangladesh. The reason for this is that earlier India had given Rs 120 crore to Bangladesh, but only Rs 34 crore was used.
2288 crores to Bhutan in the budget
In the budget, India has increased the financial assistance to its closest strategic partner Bhutan to Rs 2,288.55 crore. This reflects the special relationship that has always existed between the two countries, especially in areas like hydropower and infrastructure development.
Afghanistan’s budget increased three times
Financial assistance for Afghanistan has been increased from Rs 50 crore to Rs 150 crore. India has always been doing relief work for humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. In such a situation, this budget is a sign of India’s continued commitment to help in humanitarian and development.
How much funds did Nepal get?
Apart from this, Nepal has received Rs 800 crore, which is Rs 100 crore more. At the same time, Rs 400 crore has been given to Sri Lanka, which is Rs 100 crore more. Recently, India had sent financial assistance to Sri Lanka to deal with Cyclone Ditvah. In such a situation, this budget has naturally been increased according to the improvements and needs.
Mongolia’s budget increased 5 times
Mongolia’s name is also included in this list, where the earlier budget of Rs 5 crore for financial assistance has been increased to Rs 25 crore. Along with this, it was announced to increase the financial assistance for Mauritius from Rs 50 crore to Rs 550 crore. Like last year, the budget for Seychelles is only Rs 19 crore. It has been announced to provide financial assistance of Rs 550 crore to Maldives and Rs 300 crore to Myanmar.
