With the debut of the new Duster, Renault has made it clear that the company is more serious than ever about the Indian market. Renault does not want to depend on just one model, but is preparing to expand its portfolio rapidly. The company’s target is to launch at least one new model in the Indian market every year. Under this strategy, now discussion of a new “Mini Duster” has started, which could be Renault’s second big offering in the compact SUV segment.
Different identity of Mini Duster with Kiger
- Renault already has Kiger in the sub-4 meter SUV segment, but despite this the company is preparing for a new model. Even after a major update in 2025, Kiger sales did not grow as expected and its average monthly sales remained between 1,000 to 1,200 units. One reason for this is considered to be its coupe-style and crossover-like design, which does not give a complete SUV-like feel to many Indian customers. The Mini Duster can be introduced with a different, more upright, boxy and strong SUV look, which will be reminiscent of the old Duster.
What is expected regarding design and engine?
- According to reports, a powerful and upright design will be seen in Mini Duster. It can be given bigger wheels, stronger body cladding and better road presence. As an engine, it can be given the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol HR10 engine found in Kiger, which is likely to be offered with manual and CVT gearbox. At present, the name and complete information of this SUV has not been revealed.
Launch timeline and segments
- The Mini Duster will be launched after Renault’s upcoming 7-seater Duster derivative. In such a situation, its possible launch is being considered around 2027 or 2028. The compact SUV segment is the fastest growing segment in India, where right pricing and strong design play a big role. Renault’s top management also believes that bringing another model in this segment is a great idea.
