Hindi cinema has brought the epic Ramayana on the big screen many times, in which many actors have played the role of Lord Ram in TV and films. Among these, Arun Govil has established himself as an actor who can claim to have played the best role of God. Whereas Arun Govil is now making a comeback in this epic by playing the role of King Dashrath in actor Nitish Tiwari’s upcoming film. In a recent interview, Govil told what comparisons the upcoming Ramayana film will have to face.
What did Arun Govil say on the comparison with Ramayana?
Ramayana is a two-part film directed by Nitish Tiwari and starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Laxman. Ever since the first look was revealed, the film is being compared to Ramanand Sagar’s 1987 TV show Ramayana, in which Govil played the character of Lord Ram. Comparisons are especially made regarding Ranbir’s look as Lord Ram.
In an interview to PTI, Arun Govil said, “When a standard is set, comparisons always happen, and one should not feel bad that I am being compared. I believe that to play the role of God, you should look like that. Looks are very important. When people see you, they should see God in you, and they think, ‘God can be like this’.”
Ramayana vs Adipurush
Let us tell you that Ranbir Kapoor starrer upcoming Ramayan film is coming exactly three years after Om Raut’s badly flopped Adipurush, in which Prabhas played the role of Lord Ram, Saif Ali Khan played the role of Ravana and Kriti Sanon played the role of Sita. The film was critically panned by critics, and became one of the biggest box office flops of Indian cinema. Arun Govil said that the new Ramayana should not be compared with Adipurush. He said, “There is a lot of difference between Ramayana and Adipurush.”
Ramayan is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and DNEG in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The film is a two-part live-action story set 5000 years ago and based on one of the most famous epics of Indian mythology. The first part is scheduled to be released in IMAX worldwide in Diwali 2026, and the second part will arrive in Diwali 2027.
