Pakistan has refused to play the match against Team India, yet the International Cricket Council (ICC) will not be able to give it any punishment. This is what former ICC Chairman Ehsan Mani, who has also been the Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board, has to say. In fact, on February 1, the Pakistan government had announced that its national team will not play the T20 World Cup match with India on February 15.

The Pakistan government has not given any clear reason why the Pakistan team will not play the match with India. But it is being linked to the exclusion of Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh had demanded to shift its matches out of India citing security reasons. After rejecting this demand, ICC excluded Bangladesh from the World Cup and replaced it with Scotland.

Will Pakistan escape?

According to Sportstar, former ICC President Ehsan Mani said, “No restrictions can be imposed on the Pakistan team for following the advice of its government. It was only by following the orders of its government that the Indian team had refused to come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. You cannot adopt double standards. I will repeat the same fact again that unfortunately, instead of dealing with the problem, the ICC stood as a mute spectator.”

Ehsan Mani, while criticizing the ICC, said that it has not expressed any objection to the interference of the governments of the countries in the cricket matters.

The matter is different here

These things of Ehsaan Mani may not be the basis of the decision because India had refused to go to host Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. Later it was decided that Team India’s matches will be played in neutral venue (UAE). But in the case of T20 World Cup, Pakistan is already going to play its matches at neutral venues. Still, he is refusing to play with India at a time when the schedule has been announced several weeks in advance.
