Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the trade deal signed with India and America. He claimed on Tuesday (2 February 2026) that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been compromised (under pressure), hence he has signed a trade agreement with America. He also claimed in the Parliament complex that the Prime Minister has sold the country through this agreement and is afraid that the balloon of his image might burst.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, ‘For some reason or the other, Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed that agreement. There is tremendous pressure on PM Modi. He fears that the balloon of his image, which was built by spending thousands of crores of rupees, may burst. Actually the problem is not Naravane ji’s statement, it is a side show. The big thing is that the Prime Minister of India has become compromised. There was no change in the trade deal which was pending for four months and that trade deal was signed yesterday evening.

Government has sold the blood and sweat of farmers: Rahul Gandhi

He claimed, ‘The people of India have to think about who has compromised the Prime Minister and how. The farmers of India should understand that your hard work and blood and sweat has been sold by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this agreement. He has sold not just you but the country. Rahul Gandhi claimed that he was not being allowed to speak on the motion of thanks to the President’s address in the Lok Sabha.

Congress furious over US Agriculture Minister’s statement

Referring to the statement by America’s Agriculture Minister Brooke Rollins, Congress targeted the central government. Brook Rollins said, ‘Now the products of American farmers will be sold in the Indian market. This will bring money to rural areas of America. Indian market is very important for American farmers. Trump has benefited America’s farmers with this deal. Congress described his statement as extremely worrying for India.

Indian farmers will suffer losses: Congress

Congress said, ‘It is clear from the statement of the US Agriculture Minister that the Modi government has made this deal ignoring the interests of Indian farmers. This will cause loss to farmers in India. Now they will have to compete with American farmers in their own country. This is a complete attack on the farmers of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should answer why he compromised the interests of the farmers of India?
