Celina Jaitley had filed for divorce from her husband Peter Haag in Mumbai’s Andheri court in November last year. Now he has talked about the truth of his marriage in a very personal social media post. The divorce petition was filed on the grounds of domestic violence and abuse, which shocked many, especially since Selena often shares loving family moments with Haag and her children online. In her latest post, Selena talked about the end of her “15-year marriage”. He wrote, “My biggest lesson is this: You can’t change someone by loving them more. Love can’t fix what’s already broken.”
‘Marriage remained alive in letters of love, pain and survival’
Celina wrote in her post, “The truth behind all the beautiful things… A marriage lived through the letters of love, pain and survival… Thank you to the thousands of people who keep sharing their stories with me… You asked me what is my biggest lesson from my 15 year old broken marriage? Those who follow my writings know how I express myself best… This was something I used when I couldn’t speak when I wasn’t heard.” He further said that the letters became a way to save his marriage and protect his family. She said that her initial writings were “attempts to boost my husband’s ego, show commitment, and heal the cracks in the relationship.”
However, with time, his style of writing changed. She said, “My letters began to reflect the reality I was living. They described the abuse I was witnessing and enduring, my voice being repeatedly silenced, my voice not being heard, and the constant accusations against me.”
‘It was an attempt to tolerate the expression of my love.
Addressing the frequent speculations about violent marriages, Selena made it clear that showing love in public does not mean that there is no pain. She wrote, “My expression of love was an attempt to endure and survive, not proof of the absence of abuse.” She further said that many people stay in violent relationships because of hope, fear, responsibility, and love. She said, “They stay and continue to show love, not because they are weak, but because hope, fear, responsibility, and love are often the things that keep them alive.”
What did the lawyer say about Selena’s divorce with Peter Haag?
According to Selena’s lawyer, Peter Haag had filed for divorce in an Austrian court last year. During that time, Celina reportedly came to know that properties in Vienna were being sold without her knowledge. In the Austrian case, Haag is reportedly trying to prove that Selena has no claim on any of his shared properties. The lawyer further alleged that Haag is blaming Celina for the breakdown of the marriage. While Selena had requested for a mutual consent divorce for the sake of her children, Haag was not ready for it.
Maintenance, custody and compensation claims
In the petition represented by Karanjawala & Company, Celina has demanded Rs 10 lakh every month as maintenance and has requested the court to stop Haag from entering her Mumbai house. He has also sought custody of his three children, who are currently living with their father in Austria. Apart from this, the actress has demanded a compensation of Rs 50 crore, citing the loss of earnings allegedly caused by her husband. Let us tell you that Celina Jaitley and Peter Haag got married in 2010. The couple had twin sons in March 2012. Five years later, they again had twins, one of whom died due to a hypoplastic heart.
