A big and unexpected political development came to light during the Municipal Corporation Mayor elections on 6th February in Amravati, Maharashtra. In the mayor election of Amravati Municipal Corporation, AIMIM corporator Meera Kamble voted in favor of BJP candidate Shrichand Tejwani. This incident happened in Amravati and due to this support, Srichand Tejwani was elected mayor. This stand of AIMIM, which is generally considered an opponent of BJP, created a stir in political circles.
In the mayor elections of Amravati Municipal Corporation, such equations were created which no one had expected. AIMIM corporator Meera Kamble surprised everyone by supporting BJP candidate Srichand Tejwani at the last moment. Due to this support, BJP got a decisive lead and Srichand Tejwani occupied the post of Mayor.
AIMIM’s action and Meira Kamble’s stand
Immediately after this incident, AIMIM took strict action and expelled Meira Kamble from the party. The party said that this decision was against its ideology and discipline. AIMIM also wrote a letter to the Commissioner demanding cancellation of the post of Corporator. Meanwhile, Meera Kamble says that she voted for BJP candidate Shrichand Tejwani, giving priority to the development agenda. He argues that this decision was necessary for the development of Amravati city.
Mahayuti’s power and further power-sharing formula
Along with the mayor elections, elections were also held for the post of Deputy Mayor, in which Sachin Bhende of Yuva Swabhiman Party was elected Deputy Mayor. Mahayuti’s power has now been established in Amravati Municipal Corporation. This grand alliance includes BJP, Shiv Sena Shinde faction, Nationalist Congress Party Ajit Pawar faction and Yuva Swabhiman Party. Under the decided power-sharing formula, Srichand Tejwani will remain mayor for the first 1.5 years, while after this, Ashish Atkare of BJP will hold the post of mayor for the next 1.5 years. This arrangement is being seen as bringing stability in the politics of Amravati.
