Ruben Trumpelmann Commented On Playing the T20 World Cup 2026 In India: Namibia is part of Group A in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Apart from India, Pakistan, USA and Netherlands are in this group. Namibia’s name is taken among those emerging teams, which have consistently performed well in recent times. It would not be surprising if Namibia pulls off a major upset in the T20 World Cup. Namibia’s left-arm fast bowler Ruben Trumpelman had a special conversation with IANS on being a part of the T20 World Cup and the strategy related to the tournament. He said that the experience of playing the World Cup in India is going to be very interesting.
Ruben Trumpelman said on Namibia’s preparations
Ruben Trumpelman said, ‘We qualified for the T20 World Cup in Zimbabwe in August or just before August. We were at second position just after Zimbabwe. Our preparations started from there. After this, we played a T20 match against South Africa at home and some World League Two games to open our new stadium. In early January, we started from a camp in Cape Town. Then went to Dubai, where we played three games, two against Afghanistan and one against Italy. I think the preparation has been very good.
Ruben said on Gary Kirsten joining Namibia team
On Gary Kirsten joining the team, Trumpelman said, ‘He has a lot of experience, especially in India. Even after coaching the national team, he is a very calm person. It is easy to learn from them. He likes to help others. He said, ‘We played our first warm-up match against Scotland in which a lot of runs were scored. To be honest, as a bowler, you need to have some enthusiasm. Therefore your skills should be good. When I was in Nepal, the conditions were a little different. This was more spin-friendly. I don’t think we are expecting much turn or pace on these Indian pitches for the T20 World Cup. For us, as a bowling unit, we have to be sharp in our skill set. Trumpelman said, ‘Our plan is to keep things simple. I think the bowlers will take you ahead in the tournament and will also win the tournament. So in my opinion, whoever wins this tournament will have the best bowling attack. Batsmen will be free to go out and express themselves. Therefore, bowlers just have to be ready to execute their skills.
Playing fourth consecutive World Cup is a huge success for Namibia.
He said that for a small country like Namibia, playing the fourth consecutive World Cup is actually a huge success. I think a big part of the success is due to the fact that we are so close as a team. Most of the people in our team have been together in the four World Cup campaigns held since 2021. The time we spend together, the way we go about everyday life together, training together, going on rides together, hanging out—I think that’s what makes us special. At the end of the day we take the field as friends.
Trumpelman said it is a great privilege to lead the bowling attack
Trumpelman said, ‘It is a great privilege to lead the bowling attack, and it is something I enjoy. I like the pressure, getting the new ball, bowling in the death overs, even though it may be difficult at times, but I think with the limited number of players and resources we have, you have to make the best of what you have. I think that’s what we do as a bowling unit and as a team. We just look at the conditions. This is in our favor, and we go there. I try to take wickets and bowl well in difficult overs.
Ruben Trumpelman said on the victory over South Africa
On the T20 win over South Africa, this bowler said, ‘I think a large part of the group has experienced it. In the next World Cup, we came back to beat them. You get similar experiences in big games against full member countries like South Africa. He said, ‘We have not yet qualified for the Super 8.
