Do Regular Periods Mean Hormones Are Balanced: Often women assume that if their periods are coming on time every month, then their hormones will be absolutely fine. Regular bleeding at an interval of 28 to 30 days gives them relief and it is assumed that everything is balanced inside the body. But the truth is that regular periods are just an external sign, not the whole picture. Let us tell you what experts say about this.

The hormonal system is very complex. In this, brain ovary, thyroid, adrenal glands and metabolism, all are connected to each other. Many times this system keeps the periods regular despite internal stress and imbalance. This is the reason why some women get their periods on time, but they have to face fertility-related problems, severe pain, mood swings or premenstrual problems.

What do experts say?

Dr Radhika Sheth, medical director of Luma Fertility, told TOI that it is common in medical practice that hormonal imbalance exists for a long time even in women with regular periods. They say that periods are just a result, whereas the hormonal process behind it is much deeper and sensitive. A common but overlooked problem is progesterone deficiency, called luteal phase insufficiency. In such a situation, the woman ovulates on time and her periods also remain regular, but due to insufficient progesterone, the pregnancy does not last. If testing is not done at the right time, this problem remains undetected for years.

Problem even in regular periods

Similarly, PCOS is often associated with irregular periods, but in its mild or metabolic form, many women have regular periods. Yet they may still have insulin resistance or mild hormonal imbalance, which affects egg quality and fertility. Even mild disturbances in thyroid or prolactin can weaken ovulation and hormonal support without affecting periods. Apart from this, constant stress, lack of sleep and irregular eating habits increase cortisol in the body, due to which the hormonal balance gradually deteriorates.

What things should not be ignored?

Doctors say that symptoms like sharp mood swings, painful periods, constant fatigue, swelling, low libido or emotional instability should not be ignored as normal. These signs indicate that even if periods are regular, the body is trying to create balance from within.
