Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has given a big statement on the ongoing controversy regarding the yet unpublished book of former Army Chief General (retired) MM Naravane. Speaking to the media outside Parliament on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi said that either General Naravane or the publisher Penguin is lying in this matter. He clearly said that he trusts the words of the former Army Chief more.
Mention of Naravane’s tweet
Rahul Gandhi cited a tweet by General Naravane from the year 2023, in which he had promoted his book Four Stars of Destiny. In that tweet, Naravane had written that to buy the book follow the link and it is available on Amazon.
Rahul Gandhi said – I trust Naravane ji
Rahul Gandhi said, “Either Mr. Naravane is lying or Penguin is lying. I do not think that the former Army Chief of the country will lie. Penguin is saying that the book has not been published, but the book is visible on Amazon. I will believe what Naravane ji says.” He further said that there are some statements in Naravane’s book which are uncomfortable for the Government of India and the Prime Minister. This is the reason why questions are being raised on this.
Penguin refused.
Publisher Penguin Random House India has issued a statement clearly saying that it has not published General Naravane’s book in any form. Penguin said that the book has neither been printed nor released in digital form. The publisher warned that if any person or platform is spreading a copy of this book, it is a violation of copyright law.
warning of legal action
Penguin has said that it will take legal action against those spreading illegal and unauthorized copies of the book. This statement has been issued to clarify its position.
Delhi Police registered a case
Meanwhile, Delhi Police has registered a case against the spread of alleged illegal copies of the book on social media and online platforms. According to the investigating agencies, PDF of the book was seen on some websites, which seems to have been prepared by the publisher. The cover of the book was also shown on some online platforms as if it was available for sale.
Controversy started in Parliament
The controversy started last week during the post-budget session of Parliament, when Rahul Gandhi had cited a magazine article based on General Naravane’s unpublished book. Even though Rahul Gandhi spoke for less than five minutes, there was a huge uproar in Parliament over this.
