Imran Khawaja was one of the ICC representatives in the meeting held in Lahore with Pakistan Cricket Board and Bangladesh Cricket Board. Imran Khawaja is the Vice President of ICC and his name is taken with great respect in the cricket world. It is being told that he had a big role in changing the decisions of Pakistan.
Imran Khwaja is a lawyer by profession. Since ICC’s associate and full member countries also look up to Imran Khawaja, ICC usually puts Khawaja forward to resolve politically sensitive issues. Khawaja’s participation in the meeting with the PCB and BCB made it clear that the ICC had full confidence in him to resolve the issue.
How many demands of Pakistan were accepted?
Pakistan had put forward many demands in that meeting. Among them, despite Bangladesh being out of T20 World Cup 2026, its demand for compensation was accepted. It is being told that Bangladesh may get hosting of ICC tournaments as compensation. There will be no impact on Bangladesh’s ICC revenue.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s demand to increase its share in ICC revenue is under consideration, regarding which ICC said that it will consider it. At the same time, ICC had clearly rejected the demand to restart the bilateral series with India. A demand for a triangular series between Pakistan-Bangladesh-India was also made, but the ICC rejected it saying it was beyond its jurisdiction. Besides, ICC had also rejected BCCI’s demand to change the no-handshake policy with Pakistani players.
