H1B Visa News: Will the dream of working in America be broken? Trump’s MPs bring plan to end H1B visa program, how much impact will it have on Indians?

An MP of US President Donald Trump has introduced such a bill, which is a big blow for Indians. Greg Steuby, a lawmaker from Trump’s Republican Party, on Monday (February 9, 2026) has introduced the EXILE Act bill to end the H1B visa facility available to foreign workers.

Greg Stubby said that the H1B visa scheme gives more priority to foreign workers instead of American citizens, due to which local people are harmed. In this proposed bill named Ending Exploitative Imported Labor Exemption (EXILE) Act, changes have been proposed in the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Greg Steuby made a post on the social media platform X and wrote, ‘Today I am introducing a bill to end the H1B visa program. For a long time, American workers are being looted due to this H1B visa program. Companies have been abusing the system for their own profits by hiring cheap foreign workers, which has led to a decline in wages and deprived Americans of good-paying jobs.

A press release has also been issued by Greg Steubey’s office, in which it was said that the purpose of the EXILE Act is to address concerns that giving priority to foreign workers instead of the well-being and prosperity of American citizens undermines our values and national interests. Our workers and youth are continuously being made homeless because of the H1B visa program.

What’s in the bill?
According to the press release, under the EXILE Act, section 214(g)(1)(A) of the Immigration and Nationality Act will be amended to reduce the number of H1B visas granted per fiscal year to zero beginning in 2027. According to the press release, 5000 foreign doctors were invited under the H1B visa program, due to which more than 10 thousand American physicians were deprived of entry into the residency program. Similarly, last year more than 16 thousand Microsoft American employees were displaced because 9 thousand foreign workers were given jobs. He said that Disney had fired 250 American employees in 2015 to hire foreign workers.

What will be the impact on Indians?
This bill of Greg Stubby is the biggest blow for Indians because a large number of workers from India go to America under the H1B visa program. H1B visa is a non-immigrant visa of America, under which American companies are allowed to hire foreign workers in fields like engineering, medical and finance.

70 percent of H1B visa holders are Indians, in whom the number of young employees is high, so this bill is the biggest blow for Indians. However, the bill has just been introduced in the Lower House of the US Parliament. There has been neither debate nor voting on this yet. Now the bill will be sent to the House Committee related to H1B visa program and then it will decide whether there will be an official discussion on it or not. If it is passed in the House of Representatives, then the bill will be sent to the Senate, the upper house of the US Congress.
