If you are a fan of adventure films of the 90s and 2000s, then on hearing the name of The Mummy, you would remember the sand storm, the scary Imhotep and the chemistry of Rick-Evelyn. Now there is big news for the fans. Universal Pictures has officially announced ‘The Mummy 4’. Which will be released on 19 May 2028. The most important thing is that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will once again be seen in their iconic roles.
The magic started in 1999
The first film ‘The Mummy’, released in 1999, gave a mix of adventure horror and romance which was new and fresh for that era. Brendan Fraser’s Rick O’Connell was ‘hilarious’ in a very desi style. Who kept joking even amidst fear. Rachel Wise’s Evelyn was a smart, brave and interesting character. The film grossed more than $400 million worldwide and achieved cult status.
Sequel increased scale and action
The Mummy Returns in 2001 made the story bigger. Dwayne Johnson aka ‘The Rock’ entered Hollywood with this film. Action, curse and huge set pieces made the film a blockbuster. However, fans missed Rachel Weisz’s absence in 2008’s ‘Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’ and the film received mixed responses. After this, a reboot came in 2017 with Tom Cruise but it could not bring back the old charm.
Hope increased by the return of Brendan Fraser
Brendan Fraser has made a tremendous comeback in the last few years. After winning the Oscar for The Whale, his popularity has become high again. Fans had been demanding for a long time that he return to the role of Rick O’Connell. Now that his and Rachel Weisz’s return in The Mummy 4 has been confirmed, people’s excitement has doubled.
Sand storm will arise again in 2028
The Mummy 4 will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who are known for creating a balance of horror and fun. The film is being described as a ‘legacy sequel’, meaning that while taking the old story forward, some fresh elements will be added for the new generation. At present the story has been kept a secret but it is certain that this film will be released on May 19, 2028 as a summer blockbuster.
