The world’s largest tech company Google has made an important announcement for its employees. The company has started a voluntary departure scheme for employees working under Global Business Organization i.e. GBO. It has been said in clear words that those employees who are not feeling comfortable with the new pace of the company and AI based work can opt for this scheme.

According to reports, Google’s Chief Business Officer Philip Schindler said in an internal message sent to employees that the company has ended the year 2025 in a strong position. But the world of technology is changing at a very fast pace. In such a situation, it is important that every employee remains fully engaged with the AI ​​mission. He clearly said that every member will have to work “all in” i.e. with complete dedication. If an employee does not find himself comfortable in this fast-paced environment or wants to move forward, then the option of voluntary departure is open to him.

Which teams are affected?

This scheme will be especially applicable to solution team, sales, corporate development and some other departments. However, America’s large customer sales team and some positions directly related to customers have been kept out of this scheme. The company says that it wants minimal impact on customers, hence some important posts have not been included in this scheme.

Third plan in a year

This is not the first time that Google has started such a scheme. This is the third voluntary departure plan in the last one year. Employees were also given such an option during the return to office policy in America in June 2025. An exit package was also offered when the YouTube team was reorganized in October 2025. The company’s human resources head had earlier said that the plan has been successful and that the company is simplifying its structure. Unnecessary layers are being reduced in many departments.

How many employees chose the option

According to a report, this year about 5 percent of the employees in important departments like marketing, search, people operations and hardware have chosen the voluntary departure plan. Some employees adopted this option to take a career break, while some took this step to fulfill the responsibilities of the family. It is clear from this that this scheme is not just a way of retrenchment, but is also giving an opportunity to the employees to understand their situation and take a decision.
