Delhi government has taken a big decision keeping in mind the education and economic security of daughters. Laadli Yojana, which was running till 31 March 2026, will be closed and Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana will be implemented in its place from 1 April 2026. While making the announcement, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the new scheme has received cabinet approval and it will be implemented completely in digital mode. In such a situation, let us now tell you whether Lakhpati Yojana will come in place of Laadli in Delhi but will you have to apply again for it?

What is Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana?

Under the new Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, the government will deposit a total of Rs 56,000 at different stages from the birth of the daughter till graduation or diploma. This amount will be transferred directly to the daughter’s Aadhaar linked bank account. With time, interest will continue to accrue on it and on maturity this amount will exceed Rs 1 lakh. The entire amount can be withdrawn after completing 18 years of age, passing 12th or completing graduation-diploma at the age of 21 years.

How much money will be received in which phase?

Under this scheme, Rs 11,000 will be given on the birth of a girl child, Rs 5,000 on admission in class 1, Rs 5,000 on admission in class 6, Rs 5,000 on admission in class 9, Rs 5,000 on passing class 10, Rs 5,000 on admission in class 12 and Rs 20,000 during graduation or diploma. A total of Rs 56,000 will be deposited which will increase with interest to around Rs 1 lakh or more.

Who can avail the benefits?

The benefit of this scheme will be available only to those daughters who were born in Delhi and whose family has been living in Delhi for at least 3 years. The annual income of the family should be less than Rs 1.20 lakh. At the same time, only maximum two daughters of a family will be eligible for the scheme. For this scheme, complete vaccination of the daughter is mandatory and studies should be from a recognized institute. Benefits will be canceled if marriage occurs before the age of 18 years. If the claim is not made within the stipulated time, the amount will go back to the government.

Will I have to reapply?

Regarding this scheme, the government has clarified that Laadli scheme will be closed on 31 March 2026. In such a situation, the new Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana will be implemented from April 1. Separate application will have to be made for this. The application process will be completely online and there will be no need to go to any government office. The new eligible beneficiaries will have to apply as per the prescribed conditions. The government also said that many accounts of Ladli Yojana were not claimed even after maturity. The process of payment in such pending cases has been started and a large amount has been released to the beneficiaries. Apart from this, let us tell you that according to the government, an initial provision of about Rs 160 crore has been made for the scheme. The unused amount of Ladli scheme will also be adjusted in the new scheme, so that financial support for the education of daughters can continue.
