Voting is going on for the general elections in Bangladesh, where voting is being done on 299 seats. This time BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami are in the fray. However, in the meantime it is important to know how much salary the Prime Minister gets in Bangladesh. According to the report of Law of Bangladesh, the salary of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh has been fixed as per the amendment made in the Prime Minister (Remuneration and Privileges) Act in 2016, which came into effect from July 1, 2015. After this amendment, the salary and allowances of the Prime Minister were increased. The Prime Minister of Bangladesh gets a basic salary of 1,15,000 Taka (Bangladeshi Taka) every month. If the monthly salary is multiplied by 12, then the annual basic salary becomes 13,80,000 Taka (1,15,000 × 12). This is only basic salary and does not include other allowances.
Apart from the salary, the Prime Minister also gets many types of allowances and facilities. These include official residence, housing allowance, daily allowance, insurance and other government facilities. Adding all these, the total monthly income becomes approximately 3,05,000 taka or more. According to some reports, this amount is approximately equal to 2,500 US dollars.
What is the background of salary?
Before the 2016 amendment, the monthly salary of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh was Taka 58,600. After amendment, it was increased to Taka 1,15,000, i.e. almost doubled. This salary increase was not limited to the Prime Minister only. Under the same amendment, the salaries of other high constitutional posts like the President, Speaker of Parliament and High Court judges were also increased. Thus, as per Bangladesh Prime Minister Salary 2026, the basic salary appears relatively limited, but when allowances and official facilities are added the total monthly remuneration becomes quite high.
