Madras High Court has directed cricketer MS Dhoni to pay Rs 10 lakh. Actually, he had filed a defamation case against retired IPS officer G Sampathkumar. Dhoni will have to pay Rs 10 lakh for translation and transcription of the contents of a CD related to the same case. Justice RN Manjula has given this instruction to Dhoni while giving an interim order. The next hearing of this case will be on March 12.

Former IPS officer G Sampathkumar had linked MS Dhoni’s name to the 2013 IPL betting scam. In response to this, Dhoni had claimed defamation damages of Rs 100 crore against him. The High Court considered that it was necessary to transcribe and translate the content contained in the CD related to the case.

Justice RN Manjula said that under the order of October 25, 2025, the interpreter of the court has started the work of translating the content of the concerned CD and transcribing it in written form. The interpreter told the court that this process may take 3 to 4 months. For this, one more interpreter and one typist will be required.

The court reminded that only the plaintiff has to present the documents in the court. Since the plaintiff is MS Dhoni, he will have to pay the price (Rs 10 lakh). The former captain of the Indian cricket team will have to deposit this amount by March 12. This amount will be deposited in the Chief Justice Relief Fund account. The court has ordered the interpreter to do the translation and transcription work in the third week of March.
