After the general elections in Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman’s party Bangladesh Nationalist Party has got absolute majority, forming a stable government. This change is important for India-Bangladesh relations. In 2024, there was a trade of $13.51 Billion between the two countries, in which India got a surplus of $9.2 Billion+. Line of Credit projects worth $8 Billion may get momentum from the new government. However, BNP has been inclined towards China and Belt and Road Initiative, which may increase strategic competition. India will have to effectively reset its Neighborhood First policy.
