At present, fighter jets with stealth technology are considered most important for modern wars in the world. However, even today, the biggest strength of a fighter plane is considered to be its speed, which has the ability to defeat the enemy in a few seconds. Speed is required to prevail in the air battle and to dodge the enemy’s air defence. The surprising thing is that America’s F-35 and Russia’s Su-57 are not included in the list of top-5 fastest fighter jets.
1. MiG-25 Foxbat Fighter Jet
Talking about the top 5 fastest speed fighter jets, Russia’s MiG-25 Foxbat fighter jet comes at the first number. Russia has been manufacturing the world’s fastest fighter jet for the last few decades. The maximum speed of MiG-25 Foxbat is Mach 3.2, i.e. 2,200 miles (about 3540 KM) per hour. This jet has two Tumansky R-15B-300 afterburning turbojet engines, in which each engine generates about 22,500 pounds of thrust. Syria, Algeria, Iraq, Libya and India still use MiG-25s.
2. MiG-31 Foxhound
The speed of another fighter jet MiG-31 Foxhound made by Russia has surprised everyone in the world. The speed of Foxhound is about 2.9 Mach (about 3,000 km/h). The MiG-31 eliminated some of the shortcomings of the MiG-25. Foxbats have difficulty changing speed and changing direction quickly at low altitudes. This affected its ground attack capability, but in the sky the Foxhound was an excellent aircraft. There was no limit to its flight while flying very close to the earth. Russia still uses the MiG-31 today, despite its high speed, making it an easy target on radar screens.
3. F-15 fighter jet
America’s F-15 is at third place in this list. The US F-15E Strike Eagle, F-15 C/D and F-15EX models can still fly at speeds of Mach 2.5. The F-15EX is not stealth, but it offers speed and heavy payload capacity. It has been designed by America to attack from a distance and work together with F-35 and drones.
4. Su-27 Flanker Fighter Jet
Russia’s Su-27 Flanker has so much power that no one can ignore it. Its maximum speed is Mach 2.35 (about 2896 KM/h). Su-27 can give tough competition to F-15EX. Flanker has the capability of high thrust as well as excellent performance at altitude. Ukraine also has some Su-27 fighter jets.
5. MiG-23 Flogger Fighter Jet
Russia’s MiG-23 Flogger has a variable-sweep wing design similar to the F-14 Tomcat. Its maximum speed is also Mach 2.35 (about 2896 KM/h). Making this fighter jet was quite successful for Russia because it has exported this aircraft to many countries. Countries like Angola, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, Syria and Zimbabwe have used this aircraft.
