There is a big news for the passengers traveling in the metro, which is called the lifeline of Delhi-NCR. ‘Udyog Bhawan’, located on the Yellow Line and one of the most important stations of Lutyens’ Delhi, has now been renamed.

Now this station will be officially known as ‘Sewa Teerth Bhawan’. This change is believed to be implemented with immediate effect, and soon passengers will start seeing the new name on metro announcements, digital maps and signboards.

New address of PMO

This name change ‘Seva Teerth’ is directly related to the new premises of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had dedicated his new office complex ‘Seva Teerth’ to the nation. This state-of-the-art complex has now become the new center of power of the country, where the Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Secretariat and National Security Council Secretariat (NSC) will operate under one roof. Since this metro station is closest to the complex and is a major stop for visitors, the government has decided to link the station’s identity with this new administrative centre.

Not just name, change in ‘thinking’: Government

Giving information about this change, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar clarified that this is not just a formal name change, but it symbolizes a change in the way of looking at governance. Prime Minister Modi has described ‘Seva Teerth’ as a reflection of public service, devotion to duty and the spirit of ‘India First’. The government believes that the name ‘Udyog Bhawan’ was indicative of an old administrative structure, while ‘Seva Teerth Bhawan’ reflects the vision of seeing power not as ‘indulgence’ but as ‘service’ to the public. The Prime Minister has expressed hope that this name will inspire selfless service to the coming generations.

Next step in the series of ‘Path of Duty’

It is noteworthy that this process of changing the names of Lutyens Zone and administrative buildings by the Modi government is not new. Earlier, the name of the historical ‘Rajpath’ was changed to ‘Kartavya Path’, so that the sense of duty could be awakened by eliminating the colonial mentality. In this series, an initiative was taken to name ‘Raj Niwas’ as ‘Lok Niwas’ in various states. Now changing the name of ‘Udyog Bhawan Metro Station’ is a part of this series, which connects the objective of governance with ‘citizen welfare’.
