Neither the spinners worked nor the batsmen supported, Pakistan’s shameful defeat in Colombo; India’s 8-1 lead in T20 World Cup

In the 27th league match of T20 World Cup 2026, Team India defeated Pakistan by 61 runs and increased the lead to 8-1. It was a one-sided victory for India at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka, but the atmosphere before the match looked completely different. It seemed that India would be presented a tough challenge by Pakistan in the match (especially in the spin department).

Many former Pakistani cricketers and many cricket experts had also emphasized that Pakistan’s spinners will trouble the Indian batsmen. Before the India-Pakistan match, three matches were played at R Premadasa Stadium, in which the dominance of the spinners was seen. At the same time, the conditions for the India-Pakistan match were also in favor of the spinners.

Keeping the conditions in mind, Pakistan included 5 spinners in the playing 11. At the same time, 6 spinners bowled for Pakistan including captain Salman Aga. Pakistan saw 18 overs of spin, while the remaining 2 overs were bowled by fast bowlers.

Pakistan’s spinners did not work in front of India

As much as there was discussion about Pakistan’s spinners, in the actual match they looked equally flopped. In the match, Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl first. From here it seemed that Pakistan would be successful in restricting India to a low score by taking advantage of its spin department. The team also got a good start. Abhishek Sharma was dismissed in the very first over.

But then Ishaan, batting out of syllabus, scored 77 runs in 40 balls with the help of 10 fours and 3 sixes. This innings of Ishaan set the tone for Team India. Then from here India controlled itself and reached the total of 175/7 runs in 20 overs. Within no time, it became the biggest total of the India-Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup.

Spin all-rounder Sam Ayub took maximum 3 wickets for Pakistan. Whereas Usman Tariq, who was considered the biggest threat to India, could not do anything special. Usman gave less runs but could take only one wicket. He spent 24 runs in 4 overs.

Pakistan’s firecracker fuss in run chase

The Pakistan team that came out for the run chase looked like a mere cracker. The team captained by Salman Ali Aga was bundled out for just 114 runs in 18 overs. In this way India achieved a one-sided victory. First Pakistan’s spinners flopped and then the batsmen could not do anything. While Pakistan’s spinners were successful, for India, fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya took 2 wickets each. Apart from this, spinners Varun Chakraborty and Akshar Patel also took 2 wickets each. The remaining 1-1 wicket was taken by Tilak Verma and Kuldeep Yadav.
