14 former captains have written a letter to the Pakistan government regarding the ill health of jailed former Pakistan captain and former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He has demanded from the current Prime Minister of Pakistan Sehbaz Sharif that Imran Khan should be provided proper treatment facilities in jail. Imran has been in jail for more than 800 days. His health is deteriorating, due to which questions and concerns are being raised about his treatment in jail.
Let us tell you that Imran Khan’s sister Alima Khanum had raised her voice against the treatment of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan in jail and his deteriorating health. According to the report, this letter has been signed by Belinda Clark, Greg Chappell, Michael Atherton, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Nasir Hussain, Ian Chappell, Michael Brierley, Allan Border, David Gower, Kim Hughes, Clive Lloyd, Steve Waugh and John Wright.
Only 15% vision left in one eye
Imran Khan has been in jail for 2 years. A few days ago, a lawyer had claimed in the court that only 15 percent vision was left in Imran Khan’s right eye. He alleged that the authorities did nothing on his complaints for three months. 14 former captains of the world including Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev have written a letter to the Pakistan government demanding that Imran Khan should get proper treatment in jail. According to the Times of India, the letter reads, “We are writing with deep concern about the alleged treatment and prison conditions of Imran Khan, the former captain of our national cricket teams, a renowned former captain of Pakistan and a great player of world cricket.”
What did the former captains write in the letter?
In this letter written by former captains to the Government of Pakistan, it is written, “Imran Khan’s contribution to the game is praised all over the world. As captain, he led Pakistan to a historic victory in the World Cup in 1992. This victory came through skill, sportsmanship, strong leadership, which inspired the new generation of the world. We shared the field with him, learned from him. He is one of the best all-rounders in cricket, whom everyone respects. Apart from cricket, he also served Pakistan by becoming the Prime Minister, and handled Pakistan in difficult times.”
Regarding Imran Khan’s deteriorating health in jail, it was written in the letter, “The reports related to his health, the news of his eyesight decreasing, have made us worried.” In the letter, the former captains wrote that the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and global sports icon should be treated well in jail.
Appealing to the Pakistan government, the former captains wrote, “We demand from the Government of Pakistan that Imran Khan should receive prompt, accurate and continuous medical attention from a qualified specialist of his choice to cure his reported health problems. He should be treated with respect in jail as per international standards, his close relatives should be allowed to visit him regularly. There should be fair and transparent access to the legal process without unnecessary delays or interruptions.”
