Uddhav Thackeray has taken a big decision amidst the ongoing discussion regarding the meeting of Deputy CM Eknath Shinde and MNS chief Raj Thackeray in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena (UBT) has approved the names of nominated corporators. These three names, Sainath Durge, Madhuri Manjrekar and Kailash Pathak have been approved. According to sources, Uddhav Thackeray has taken this decision immediately after the meeting between Raj Thackeray and Shinde.
On behalf of MNS, Yashwant Killedar had expressed the hope of giving one corporator to MNS from the quota of three nominated corporators of Uddhav Sena. Raj Thackeray had demanded a nominated councilor from Uddhav Thackeray. There is talk in political circles that by finalizing the names of the three approved corporators, Uddhav Thackeray has dashed the hopes of MNS. The names of the approved corporators will be officially announced on February 28.
First meeting of Shinde and Raj Thackeray after BMC elections
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray met Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at his official residence ‘Nandanvan’ in Mumbai on Wednesday (February 18). It is being told that many issues were discussed between the two leaders. This was the first meeting between Deputy CM Eknath Shinde and Raj Thackeray after political differences in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.
Who got how many seats in BMC?
In the BMC elections, Eknath Shinde faction’s Shiv Sena, which contested in alliance with BJP, won 29 seats, while Raj Thackeray-led MNS, contesting in alliance with Shiv Sena (UBT), won 6 seats. Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray were seen together on many platforms during BMC elections. Uddhav faction’s Shiv Sena won 65 seats. The alliance of Raj Thackeray and Uddhav fell far short of the majority mark in the 227-member Municipal Corporation. Whereas BJP easily crossed the majority mark of 114 by winning 89 seats and ally Shiv Sena 29 seats.
Shiv Sena (UBT) considers Shinde faction as its staunch opponent. Before the alliance talks began between Raj and Uddhav Thackeray, Uddhav’s party had openly said that the MNS chief should not have any contact with Shinde or the BJP.
It is noteworthy that BJP councilor Ritu Tawde has been elected Mayor of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). After a long gap of about 44 years, a councilor from BJP has captured the post of Mayor of Mumbai. The almost three decade old dominance of undivided Shiv Sena ended this time.
