The historic alliance between India and America took place in the presence of US Ambassador Sergio Gore and Ashwini Vaishnav. India joined the US-led Pax Silica Alliance on Friday (20 February 2026). This alliance has been formed with the aim of securing and strengthening the global supply chain of semiconductor (chip), artificial intelligence (AI) and critical minerals. America launched Pax Silica in December 2025.

The name Pax Silica has its own meaning. Pax means peace and stability, while Silica means silicon, an essential raw material for modern computer chips. This means that this alliance is an important step towards technological stability and a secure digital future. Its objective is to make the supply chain of semiconductor, AI and important minerals more safe. After the Covid-19 pandemic and geopolitical tension, the world realized that the supply of chips and technical equipment is more dependent on a few selected countries.

Strategy to reduce dependence on China

Although it has not been officially said that this alliance has been created to reduce China’s technological dominance, but analysts believe that this is its objective. China has played a big role in the global semiconductor and electronics supply chain, hence India can emerge as the new King of Russia in this sector. Pax Silica Alliance is an effort to create a reliable network among partner countries, so that dependence on any one country in the supply of important technical resources and raw materials can be reduced. This initiative is considered to be part of America’s Indo-Pacific strategy and technology-based partnership model.

Major countries included in the alliance

Countries like Japan, South Korea, Australia, Singapore, Israel, Britain, Qatar and United Arab Emirates are already included in this alliance led by America. All these countries play a special role in technological innovation, chip production, AI research and important mineral resources. Now with the inclusion of India, this group has become stronger, because India is rapidly making its mark as an emerging digital economy and global technology hub.

India’s role and opportunities for semiconductor mission

India was recently invited to join this group. This is being considered a big opportunity for India’s semiconductor mission and AI sector. The Government of India has already implemented various policies to promote semiconductor production. By joining Pax Silica Alliance, India can get new opportunities to meet the demand of technical cooperation, investment, research partnership and supply chain. This is likely to strengthen the chip manufacturing, design and AI based startup ecosystem in the country.
