An attacker tried to enter US President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach. He also had a shotgun and petrol bomb in his hand, after which the Secret Service opened fire, killing the 20-year-old man on the spot.
The agency said the man approached the north gate of the West Palm Beach estate. He had a shotgun and a petrol bomb in his hand. After that he entered the security cordon around the resort.
What did the Secret Service say in the statement?
“A man armed with a shotgun and a gasoline bomb was observed near the north gate of the Mar-a-Lago property,” the Secret Service said in a statement. When he entered the restricted area, policemen and a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confronted him and opened fire on him. The man was shot and died on the spot. However, his identity has still been kept secret.
According to information, no Secret Service or Sheriff Office employee was injured. The FBI, Secret Service and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are currently jointly investigating the shooting. It is also being investigated what was the motive of the person who attacked and what has been his background and recent activity. The Secret Service said that the US President was in Washington at the time of the incident and no protected person was present at the resort.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw told a press briefing that the man broke into the security cordon inside Mar-a-Lago at about 1:30 a.m. local time. He said, he had a shotgun and petrol bomb. The officers asked him to leave these things but he did not leave the petrol bomb and picked up the gun to open fire. Agents responded to neutralize the potential threat.
