After the US Supreme Court declared the tariff illegal, Trump announced a 15 percent global tariff. This decision of Trump may benefit some countries in the Asia-Pacific region which have faced higher tariffs. These include China and most of the countries of South-East Asia. Moody’s Analytics said in a statement on Tuesday (24 February 2026) that it will affect countries like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China.

America imposed 15% global tariff

Moody’s Analytics said, ‘There is a lot of uncertainty, but we know some things. A flat tariff of 15 per cent will benefit Asia-Pacific economies that have faced much higher tariffs. The US Supreme Court last week ruled against the Trump administration’s country-specific tariffs, after which Trump imposed a 10 percent tariff on all countries for 150 days. Later it has also been announced to increase it to 15 percent. However, no order or notification has been issued yet in this regard.

Moody’s claim regarding India-Indonesia

Moody’s statement said, ‘The US court’s decision also raises questions on the recent trade deals with India and Indonesia. The deadline for gradually reducing the purchase of Russian oil by India and the quantity of duty free textile exports from Indonesia have not been decided yet. India has also postponed its plan to send its delegation to Washington. It said that the court’s decision limits America’s power to impose country-specific tariffs, which reduces its pressure in trade negotiations.

This also includes high-level talks like the important meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in a little more than a month. “We believe Trump will seek other legal avenues to increase tariffs and we would not be surprised if U.S. tariffs reach levels close to pre-Friday levels,” the statement said. Some governments may slow down the process of approving trade agreements with the US, but they are unlikely to back down completely due to fear of more punitive tariffs.

Companies can ask for compensation: Moody’s

It said that even in the best-case scenario of tariffs stabilizing below the applicable rate before February 20, there would still be substantial trade uncertainty and logistics disruption. Also, companies can seek compensation for fees already paid. This process can prove to be quite controversial and time consuming. The statement said, ‘If American importers consider this decision as temporary relief, then they can hurry to ship the goods before the tariffs increase again.
