If you live in Delhi and want to get a ration card made, then it is very important for you to know that now the entire process has been made online. Ration card is not just a means of getting cheap wheat and rice, but it is also an important government document. Through this you can avail the benefits of many government schemes, subsidies and Public Distribution System (PDS).
To make the process of making ration card transparent and easy, the Food, Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department of Delhi Government has made it completely online. Now applications for new ration cards will be accepted only through the e-District portal. The facility of offline application is no longer available.
Why is ration card important?
Through ration cards, eligible families get grains and other food items at low prices. Apart from this, it also works as an identity card and is helpful in availing benefits of many government schemes. Lakhs of families in Delhi are availing benefits through ration cards. The government periodically approves new applications to replace those who have died, transferred or surrendered cards. Lakhs of new ration cards are likely to be issued soon.
Who can apply for ration card?
Ration cards will be available only to those families whose annual family income is up to Rs 1.20 lakh, who are permanent residents of Delhi, who fall in the economically weaker section and who fall in the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) or Priority Household (PHH) category.
Special points of new rules
1. Now the application will be completely online.
2. It is necessary to give the Aadhaar number of every member of the family.
3. The eldest woman will be made the head of the family.
4. The income limit has been increased to Rs 1.20 lakh.
5. The application will be thoroughly scrutinized.
Who will not be eligible?
According to the new rules, those people will not be considered eligible for ration card, who own a four-wheeler, who pay income tax, who are in government job, who have more than 2 kilowatt electricity connection in their house and who have a house or land in A to E category colony. Earlier the annual income limit for ration card was Rs 1 lakh, which has now been increased to Rs 1.20 lakh. With this, more needy families will be able to get the benefits of the scheme.
How to apply online?
1. Application for ration card can be made only on the e-District Portal of Delhi Government.
2. For this, first go to the portal.
3. If you are a new user then register first.
4. Now login after registration.
5. After this fill the application form for ration card.
6. Now upload all the necessary documents.
7. Submit the form. After submitting the form, the application will be scrutinized under the Food Supply Officer.
8. If needed, officials can come to the home for verification or ask for additional information. You can also track the status of your application by visiting the same portal.
