Indian luxury car manufacturing company Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for some of its cars. The company has recalled a total of 149 vehicles. This step has been taken due to a software glitch in the emergency stop assist feature. If you have a car of any of these models, then you must check the status of your vehicle. If needed, the company is providing free software updates, which will fix this problem.
Which models were affected?
According to the company, this recall is not applicable to all cars, but only certain units are affected. This includes some CLE Coupe vehicles manufactured between 2024 and 2025. Apart from this, some units of the AMG CLE lineup made in 2025 are also in this list. Additionally, some AMG C-Class cars manufactured between October and November 2024 are also said to be affected. Including all these, a total of 149 units come under the ambit of recall.
What is the problem with emergency stop assist?
Emergency Stop Assist is an important safety feature. This works when the driver does not respond for some reason. This system monitors steering activity and can bring the vehicle to a gentle stop and even initiate an emergency call if the driver does not respond, but in the vehicles that have been recalled, the software is not able to correctly detect driver inactivity. Due to this, the automatic braking and assist systems may not be activated at the right time. However, it has no effect on normal brakes and driver’s control.
What should car owners do?
Those who own these models should contact the nearest authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership by taking the VIN number of their car. The company itself will contact the affected customers. Free software update will be provided to fix this problem. Since this is a security related matter, it is important to get it updated as soon as possible. If you are thinking of buying a second-hand Mercedes of any of these models, first check whether the recall update has been completed on that car or not.
