Big news has come for lakhs of youth of the country. Indian Railways has announced to open new job opportunities for firefighters and ex-servicemen. After completing four years of service, Agniveers will now have to worry less about the future. Railways and Indian Army have jointly prepared a new cooperation framework, under which better employment opportunities will be provided after retirement.
Indian Railways and Indian Army have jointly started this initiative. Through this cooperation, former firefighters and ex-servicemen will be given reservation in government jobs. The first batch of Agniveers is going to complete their four-year tenure this year. In such a situation, this decision is being considered a big relief for them. Earlier, reservation for firefighters has also been announced in Central Armed Police Force and Delhi Police. Now, with the availability of this facility in Railways also, another strong option has opened before the youth.
On which posts will reservation be given?
It has been said by the Railways that the benefit of reservation will be given to ex-servicemen and ex-fire warriors on Level-1, Level-2 and above posts. This reservation will be applicable during the recruitment process. Recruitment will be through competitive examination, which is conducted by Railway Recruitment Board and Railway Recruitment Centre.
Level-1 posts (equivalent to Group D posts)
20 percent reservation for ex-servicemen
10 percent reservation for former firefighters
Level-2 and above posts
10 percent reservation for ex-servicemen
5 percent reservation for former firefighters
More than 14 thousand posts already reserved
According to the Railway Ministry, 14,788 posts were reserved for ex-servicemen in the recent recruitment cycle. Of these, 6,485 posts were of Level-1, while 8,303 posts were of Level-2 and above. It is clear from this that Railways is already giving opportunities to ex-servicemen, and now Agniveer is also being included in this system.
Soon recruitment on pointsman posts
Railways is preparing to recruit more than 5,000 ex-servicemen soon. They will be appointed as pointsmen on contract basis till the completion of the regular recruitment process. At present, the recruitment process is going on for more than 5,000 level-1 posts at zone and divisional level. Till now 9 divisions have also signed agreements with army organizations. This is expected to speed up the recruitment process.
