Patna University Student Union elections for session 2025-26 are going to be held today on Saturday (28 February). Elections will be held today itself and the counting of votes will also be completed by late night. This time the university administration has made the time table half an hour earlier. Today voting will start from 8:30 am and will continue till 2:30 pm. Common students of the university will vote in this election.
The counting of votes has been scheduled to start at 4:10 pm today and the results will be released late in the night. Counting of votes will take place in the Arts-Crafts College. However, if the Valet Walks from all the polling stations do not reach the counting venue by the stipulated time, the counting of votes will not be started. Chief Electoral Officer Prof. Shankar Kumar said that voters will mark the cross with a ball pen in front of the serial number of the candidate. Voting will be canceled if plus or any other mark is placed, he said, adding that a total of 41 polling stations have been set up for 14 electoral units. The work of delivering ballot boxes to polling stations had started from Friday. 20036 student voters will use their votes in this election.
There will be elections for a total of five posts for Central Panel and 22 posts of Counsellor. The ballot boxes of the central panel are kept in different colours. Voting has to be done in the same color ballot box as the ballot paper. A voter will vote six times in different ballot boxes. After the completion of the voting process, the ballot paper will be sealed at the polling station. Tight security arrangements have also been made for the elections. Special arrangements for security have been made especially in Patna Women’s College, Patna College, Science College, BN College and Magadh Mahila College where there are more polling stations.
Presidential debate was organized in Science College on Thursday for the elections. The election campaign came to an end with the presidential debate. There was vigorous campaigning for the five posts of Central Panel Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer. 11 candidates are contesting for the post of President in PU Students Union elections. 8 candidates are in the fray for the post of Vice President, 9 for the post of General Secretary, 6 for the post of Joint Secretary and 7 for the post of Treasurer. A total of 41 candidates are in the fray for Patna University Central Panel. There are 45 candidates in the fray for Patna University Council member.
Candidates from political parties are also contesting for five posts of the Central Panel. In this, Anushka Kumari from ABVP, Prince Patel from student JDU, Santu Kumar from student RJD, Shantanu Shekhar from NSUI (Congress) and Saba Afrin from AISA are in the fray for the post of president. For the post of Vice President, student Ayush Harsh from JDU, Gunjesh Kumar from ABVP, Anjali Patel from NSUI, student Suman Shekhar from RJD are in the fray. Khushi Kumari from NSUI, Priya Singh from ABVP, Manjeet Kumar from Chhatra JDU, Pratyush Raj from Chhatra RJD and Aditi Singh from AISA are trying their luck for the post of General Secretary.
Let us tell you that last year in 2025, Patna University elections were held on 29 March. At that time there were a total of 19,059 student voters, but 45% voting took place. The result was released late night on 29th March. ABVP candidate Maithili Mrinalini won the post of president by 596 votes and became the first woman president of Patna University. He defeated Manoranjan Raja of NSUI, the student wing of Congress, and received a total of 3524 votes. Apart from this, independent candidate Dheeraj Kumar had won the post of Vice President. Independent Saloni Raj had won the post of General Secretary. Rohan Singh of NSUI had won the post of Joint Secretary and Soumya Srivastava of NSUI had won the post of Treasurer.
