Can Eating Fish And Curd Together Cause Skin Problems: Since childhood, many of us have heard that one should not consume milk or any dairy product after eating fish, otherwise white spots may appear on the skin. The elders in the house have often advised to avoid this combination, but does it really have any scientific basis or is it just an old belief? Let us tell you what is the truth behind this.
What is perception?
According to popular belief, taking fish and curd together can cause uneven white spots on the skin, which is called vitiligo or leucoderma. Another argument given is that the nature of curd is cold and that of fish is hot and different enzymes are required to digest them. In such a situation, there is extra pressure on the body, which can cause problems like gas, bloating or indigestion.
It is also considered prohibited in Ayurveda. Fish is kept in the category of Tamasic food and milk in the category of Satvik food. It is believed that consuming both together can create imbalance by increasing the Tamasic qualities in the body. However, this approach is based on traditional beliefs.
What do experts say?
From a scientific point of view, there is no concrete evidence to prove that drinking curd with fish is harmful. Dr. Saurojit Gupta, Baby and Child Specialist, told in his video that this is not so. As far as white spots are concerned, vitiligo is usually caused by the destruction of melanocytes, the skin color-producing cells, or by some fungal infection. Consuming only fish and curd together does not cause this condition.
When does the problem occur?
Generally, eating both together in small quantities is considered safe, but some people may have problems. Both fish and curd are rich in protein and the process of digesting them is different. In such a situation, those whose digestion system is sensitive may feel gas, flatulence or indigestion. People with lactose intolerance or allergy to milk protein may develop skin symptoms like itching, rashes or eczema. In some cases, the histamine in fish and lactose in dairy can increase acne or skin flare-ups in sensitive people. However, every person’s stamina is different. If there are no allergies or digestion problems, this combination is generally considered safe in limited quantities.
