A son was born to Terika and Shawn on January 31 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, New York. The child was named Shawn Jr. His weight at birth was 5.9 kg, which is almost double the average weight of normal newborns. According to the report, this is the heaviest child ever born in the hospital.
Mother was also surprised
Terika, mother of four children, told that she thought the child would be a little heavy, but she did not expect that it would weigh so much. She jokingly said that it looked as if she had given birth to a three-month-old baby. Shawn Jr. is currently wearing clothes and diapers for babies aged three to six months.
1.8 kg baby girl born on the same day
Interestingly, on the same day, another baby girl was born in the hospital, whose name is Margot. His weight was only 1.8 kg. The hospital shared the picture of both the newborns on Facebook, in which the difference in size of the two was clearly visible. Margot’s mother Chloe said that this moment was very sweet and it shows that every child is different.

Robin Torgalski, director of maternal and child health at Centralus Health, said these two births are beautiful examples of how every newborn and every birth experience is different. He said that whether the child is four pounds or thirteen pounds, the medical team is prepared for every situation. He expressed pride in the services of the hospital and called it an honor to be involved in this special moment with the families.
