Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday (March 4) regretted the ‘silence’ of the Indian government and the ruling National Conference (NC) on the US-Israel attacks on Iran. During this, he burnt the effigies of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.
Targeting the central and state governments, he said that the government of the country has not opposed Khamenei’s death and the war. Neither did they express sympathy towards the people there nor did the leadership of Kashmir express protest and sympathy.

He said that we have had very strong relations with Iran. Therefore, due to restrictions outside, we have protested at home and burnt his effigy. With this, I want to give a message to the whole world that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are with the people of Iran. We salute their martyrdom and bravery.

He also said that those people who have been put in jail by the government should be released. The FIR lodged against MPs Ruhullah Mehdi and Junaid Azim should be cancelled.
What did Mehbooba Mufti say about Iran?
He said that there was a time when we (India) were supporters of Iran. When sanctions were imposed on India, Iran gave us free oil. And now the world system is in complete disarray. Regarding silence on Khamenei’s death, the PDP President said that the Government of India and the National Conference government in Jammu and Kashmir have maintained silence on the open attack by America and Israel against Iran and the martyrdom of its supreme leader. This does not mean that the speakers are criminals and should be booked under the law.
He said that our leaders have not condemned these attacks. When people took to the streets to show solidarity with Iran, many people were arrested, including some women.
What did you say on the arrest of people in Srinagar?
Many people from Srinagar have also been arrested. What should we say about the country in such a situation? Mehbooba said, “They (BJP) have already sunk the country by playing Hindu-Muslim politics.”
Targeting the Muslim countries, he said that all the Muslim countries have become silent spectators of all this and are indirectly supporting America by providing their bases to it. I think the recent US agreement with Saudi Arabia was only to target Iran.
