The Rajya Sabha elections to be held in Maharashtra do not seem to be unopposed this time. There is a lot of activity in the political circles and there is every possibility of the contest being interesting. The special thing is that the entire election equation now seems to revolve around Sharad Pawar.
Voting for Rajya Sabha seats is to be held on March 16. Voting will take place on a total of 30 seats in 10 states of the country, which include 7 seats in Maharashtra. Considering the current political situation of the state, 6 candidates of Mahayuti and one candidate of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are expected to win.
Strategy against Sharad Pawar intensified
In this election, most eyes are fixed on Sharad Pawar. His name is considered almost certain from Mahavikas Aghadi. But on the other hand, Mahayuti and especially Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde do not want to let this election be easy.
According to sources, two candidates can be fielded from Shiv Sena. It is believed that this strategy is being made to directly pose a political challenge against Sharad Pawar. In such a situation, this Rajya Sabha election can become an interesting game of statistics.
BJP declared 4 candidates
BJP has declared the names of its 4 candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections. These include former minister Vinod Tawde, RPI (Athawale faction) chief and Union Minister of State Ramdas Athawale, Hingoli BJP leader Ramrao Wadkute and Nagpur BJP leader Maya Ivanate.
Sharad Pawar’s name is in front from Mahavikas Aghadi. On the other hand, the name of Parth Pawar is being discussed by the Ajit Pawar group. However, the name of the candidate has not been made public by Shiv Sena yet, due to which suspense remains.
Need 37 votes to win
In Rajya Sabha elections, any candidate needs at least 37 first preference votes to win. According to the current numerical strength, Mahayuti is said to have the support of about 232 MLAs.
Shinde faction has about 20 extra votes, while Ajit Pawar faction is believed to have three extra votes. In such a situation, political parties are busy working out their mathematics.
Maharashtra’s Rajya Sabha elections are going to be very exciting this time. It will be especially interesting to see how Sharad Pawar faces this political challenge.
