Big information has come out for the candidates preparing for UPSC Civil Services Examination 2026. Actually, the Department of Personnel and Training of the Central Government has released the service wise details of a total of 933 posts to be filled for the Civil Services Examination 2026. This time the number of posts in All India Services and Central Services is less as compared to last year. Through Civil Services Examination, officers will be selected in many Group A and B services including Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Foreign Service. Whereas the Civil Services Preliminary Examination will be held on 24th 2026.
How many posts of IAS, IPS and IFS are vacant?
According to the data released by UPSC, a total of 180 posts of IAS are vacant. Of these, 72 posts are unreserved, 27 posts are reserved for SC, 14 posts for ST, 49 posts for OBC and 18 posts for EWS category. There are a total of 150 posts vacant in IPS. Of these, 62 posts have been kept for unreserved, 19 posts for SC, 17 posts for ST, 37 posts for OBC and 15 for EWS category. Apart from this, 40 posts have been fixed for IFS. Out of which 16 are reserved for unreserved, 6 SC, 3 ST, 11 OBC and 4 EWS category. Apart from this, there are 94 posts in Indian Revenue Service and 180 posts in IRS. Including other central services, a total of 933 posts are vacant.
How are the total posts category wise?
According to UPSC, if we look at the category wise out of total 933 posts, 397 posts have been earmarked for unreserved, 243 OBC, 133 SC, 72 ST and 88 posts for EWS category. A total of 33 posts are reserved for disabled candidates.

How is the selection process in UPSC?
Civil Services Examination is conducted in three phases. First of all there is Prelims, in which successful candidates are called for Mains. After this, the successful candidates in Mains appear in the interview. Whereas the final merit list is prepared on the basis of performance in 1750 marks of Mains and 275 marks of Interview.
Face authentication will also be necessary from 2026
From 2026, authentication will be made mandatory at the examination center in all UPSC examinations including Civil Services. Candidates will be identified with the help of Artificial Intelligence. So that fake candidates can be banned. Apart from this, the facility of giving examination center of their choice to disabled persons will also be implemented in the new system. At the same time, UPSC has reduced the period for filing objections on question paper and answer key from 7 days to 5 days. Now after prelims, candidates will have to register their objection within 5 days. According to the new provisions, the candidates who are already working on IAS, IFS posts will not be able to appear in the UPSC 2026 examination.
