England captain Harry Brook admitted after the seven-run defeat against India in the ICC T20 World Cup semi-final that he made a big mistake by dropping the catch of Sanju Samson during the host team’s innings. He later scored a half-century and was adjudged the best player of the match.
Chasing India’s target of 254 runs, England could score only 246 runs for seven wickets despite a century by Bethel (105 runs, 48 balls, seven sixes, eight fours).
Earlier, Samson, taking advantage of the lifeline given at the score of 15 runs, scored 89 runs in 42 balls with seven sixes and eight fours, due to which India scored 253 runs for seven wickets, which is the highest score of knockout matches in the history of the tournament.
Brook said after the match, “We thought that in the first innings the ball would stop more and spin but the ball came on the bat well and India batted well.”
He said, “I admit that I made a big mistake by leaving Samson’s catch. We were not that good at fielding. We made mistakes and cannot do the same against India.
Brook praised Bethel for leading England to an almost unbelievable victory.
“Bethel was absolutely incredible, he’s going to make a lot of money,” Brook said. He showed the world what he can do by scoring runs from the very first ball. We had a good tournament and we should be very proud of how we played. We stood firm throughout the match but unfortunately the result was not in our favor.
